It needs some explanation of how Edgar Stroud becomes Victor Raymond and eventually Edgar Raymond.

Edgar's birth was registered in the Alverstoke registration district. Today Alverstock is part of the borough of Gosport.

In both the 1881 and 1891 Census his place of birth is given as Gosport.

His Royal Navy Service record as Edgar Stroud gives his date of birth as 23/9/1877. One year older than he actually was.

When he married Lydia Dunn in 1901 he is described as a trooper in the Brabant Horse. This was a unit which served in the Boer War in South Africa. He appears to have served in the 1st Battalion.

The records of his divorce from Lydia in 1915 states he is "serving in the Royal Flying Corps under the name of Victor Raymond and is now stationed at Netheravon in the County of Wilts" and that previously he had "on divers occasions committed adultery with a woman unknown" in Cardiff.

Victor Raymond's RAF service record states he was born 23/9/1879, One year younger than he acutally was and he has a child Norah May who was born 28/3/1915. Norah's birth was registered in Richmond, Surrey. Wife's name is not mentioned.

He appears as Victor Raymond in the 1939 Register which gives his date of birth as 23/9/1879. Again one year younger than he acutally was.
